The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has announced the appointment of Iain Murray as Director of Public Financial Management.
Murray will be responsible for leading the development of CIPFA’s policies, standards and technical work and will also serve as a member of the management board.
He is a long-time member of CIPFA with over 20 years of experience working with the public sector. He worked in the Audit Commission before joining Grant Thornton in 2012, where he became a director and became a key audit partner.
Rob Whiteman, CEO of CIPFA, said: “I am delighted that Iain has joined CIPFA and will bring his considerable experience and skills to the Institute. Iain has worked in the public sector for most of his career, so he understands the unique demands, challenges and expectations he faces.
“This is a particularly challenging time for utilities, particularly in the area of local auditing, so Iain’s guidance and expertise will be a terrific addition to CIPFA’s leadership team.”
Murray added, “I am delighted to join CIPFA at an important time for the Institute and public services in general. I look forward to working closely with colleagues and members on key issues facing the public sector.
