Kendrick Lamar wants you to be rich.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning Compton, Calif.-born rapper and businessman recently teamed up with billionaire Ray Dalio for a new video promoting financial literacy for just that purpose.
“Slow money” is where it’s at, Lamar says in the video that was released as part of Cash App’s current “It’s Money” campaign. Cash App is a tour sponsor of Lamar.
The promo, which you can see below, was played at tour stops along Kendrick’s current Big Steppers tour. It has since been released on Monday August 15, with Dalio and comedian ExavierTV.
The video features the story of a hopeful barber shop owner who, instead of fulfilling his dream, laments that a friend ruined the plan and lost significant money.
Said Lamar to the camera/our point of view: “He saved his money to buy a local barber shop. He then made a friendly trade bet [with his friend] hoping to get more money for this business. But he ends up losing everything with a single throw of the dice.
Analyzing the situation after the fact, Lamar says succinctly, “Slow money wins the race.”
The Grammy Award-winning rapper added on Twitter, “invest in yourself. @pglang”
The music video was written and directed by Dave Free and produced by pgLang with Project 3.
Lamar, who recently became eligible for an Oscar nomination for his “We Cry Together” video, recently made headlines for making a security guard cry on one of his songs.
His latest release Mr. Morale and Big Stepswas one of the most acclaimed LPs of 2022. It was his first studio release since Damn in 2017.
